Belview, MN - the Winery Capital!

Two of our newest chamber members are wineries in or near the little town of Belview.

Grandview Valley Winery has been a favorite destination for Granite Falls residents since it opened a few years ago.  Nestled in the Minnesota River Valley, its outdoor seating and great scenery make it a fun destination for a glass of wine and great pizza.  They've recently added some new items to their menu .
From their website, the story of Grandview and the Rigge family -
Our winery and vineyard sit on land that has been in our family for four generations. In the spring of 2008 133 grapevines were planted to test the waters. In the spring of 2009 the once soybean field was transformed into a 7 1/2 acre vineyard: 4,200 more vines of 11 varieties. The winery building was constructed almost solely by us; work began in the spring of 2011 and was completed within one year. We opened our doors for business on June 7th, 2012.

Heaven's Gate Winery  just opened this year by the Marhoun family.  Almost within the city limits of Belview, this winery features apple wines and a great menu.  From an article in the Redwood Gazette,   "What has ended up as a business for the family actually started in 2012 when they planted their first apple trees.

Initially the plan was to develop an orchard and sell the apples to customers, but as time went on the Marhouns decided there was more they could offer.

“What we discovered is that apples make pretty good wine,” said Bonnie, adding what started as an experiment grew as they shared their wine with family and friends. “The response from them was overwhelming. They wanted more, and so we decided we would open a winery.”

Because of their affiliation with the Granite Falls Area Chamber, the Southern Minnesota Tourism Association has featured both wineries in an email marketing campaign and in the Southern Minnesota Travel Guide highlighting local food and wine of our region.  They are a great addition to the area!
